Brian Cathcart is professor of journalism at Kingston University London. Born in Ireland, he started his career at Reuters and went on to be deputy editor of the Independent on Sunday and assistant editor of the New Statesman. He is the author of eight books, including the award-winning The Case of Stephen Lawrence (1999) and most recently The News From Waterloo (published this spring). He was also a founder and the first director of Hacked Off, the campaign for a free and accountable press.
