Joanna Woods is the author of four biographies, including Katerina: the Russian World of Katherine Mansfield (Penguin 2001) in which she explores Mansfield’s life-long obsession with Russia.

Educated in Ireland, England and New Zealand, Dr. Woods gained her doctorate from Moscow State University and has contributed to publications in Russia and New Zealand. Until her recent move to London , she was President of the National Library Society in Wellington. She has also served on the Board on the NZ-UK Link Foundation.

As the wife of a New Zealand diplomat, Dr Woods has lived in France, Greece, Italy, Iran, Russia and the United States. Her most recent book,Diplomatic Ladies: New Zealand’s Unsung Envoys was published by Otago University Press in 2012.
